# Resetting a user's desktop app PIN

## About this task

For users running PingID desktop app 1.74 or later, it is not possible for them to reset their own PIN. To help a user create a new PIN, do the following:

## Steps

1. Ask the user to uninstall the desktop app from their local machine.

2. Unpair the user's device from the PingID service. For more information, see [Unpairing a user's device from the PingID service](../pingid_user_life_cycle_management/pid_unpairing_users_device_from_pid_service.html)

   ### Result:

   The user's desktop app service is unpaired.

3. The user should install and pair the desktop app again and create a new PIN code. For more information, see [Setting up PingID desktop app](http://docs.pingidentity.com/pingid-user-guide/secure_authentication_with_pingid/ug_pid_desktop_app_web.html).
