Overview of the PingOne user experience

When using PingOne directory, users can interact with PingOne in the following ways:

PingOne user account registration

You can invite users to register their PingOne account in the following ways:

  • PingOne inviting your users to register their PingOne account. The email includes a link to the registration page.
  • Self service registration without approval: provide your user(s) with a link to the registration page. The user accesses the link with their browser, and then fills in their account details. Once complete they can log in to their account immediately, without requiring approval.
  • Self service registration - requiring approval: provide your user(s) with a link to the registration page. The user accesses the link with their browser, and then fills in their account details. On completion a message appears telling them their access requires approval. You’ll receive details of their registration and be able to approve the request. Once approved, the user can gain access to their account, using the credentials they defined.

Password resets

User passwords can be reset or changed in the following ways:

  • User forgets their password: From the PingOne login screen, click Forgot Password and enter your email address. An email is sent to the user, with a link to the password reset page, where they are prompted to enter a new password.
  • User wants to change their password from the PingOne dock. In the Avatar menu, click Change Password. The Reset Your Password screen opens, prompting them to enter their current password and a new password. The changes are applied immediately.
  • Administrator changes the user password. As administrator, you can change a user’s password from the PingOne admin portal.
  • Setting an expiry date: If a user’s password expires, they’ll receive an email with a link to the change password page where they can create a new one.

Unauthenticated Account lockout

  • If a user attempts to access the PingOne dock or a specific SP application, and their credentials are not authenticated, their access is denied.
  • If a user attempts to log on with the wrong username or password more times than the password policy allows then their account is temporarily locked.
  • An email is sent to inform the user of the unauthorized attempt to log in, so they are informed in the event that they did not trigger the lockout. The email also provides a link to reset the user’s password, if required.

User logout from the PingOne dock

Users can logout from the PingOne dock using the Avatar menu, or by closing their browser.

Self-service registration notification emails

Administrators can receive email notifications as individual emails, and can also receive a daily summary of self-service registrations. These notifications can be used to prompt the administrator to review the registrations and approve those that require approval.
