# Configuring PingFederate for basic authentication

Create an instance of the Reference ID SP Adapter.

## Steps

1. In the **User Name** and **Pass Phrase** fields, enter your credentials.

2. Clear the **Allowed Subject DN** and **Allowed Issuer DN** fields.

3. From the **Transport Mode** list, select **Query Parameter**.
