# Installing the PingAuthorize Policy Editor manually

Choose the database for your fine-grained access control use case, protected resource *(tooltip: \<div class="paragraph">
\<p>Information, typically accessed through a web URL, that is protected by an access management system.\</p>
\</div>)*, and computing environment and install the PingAuthorize Policy Editor.

## About this task

You can install the PingAuthorize Policy Editor in one of two ways: interactively or noninteractively.

## Steps

1. Choose the database to use:

   ### Choose from:

   * H2: The default embedded database.

   * PostgreSQL: This is optional and requires additional configuration.

2. **Optional:** If you are using a PostgreSQL database, set up the database.

For more information, see [Setting up a PostgreSQL database](paz_set_up_postgresql_database.html).

3. Install the PingAuthorize Policy Editor:

   ### Choose from:

   * Interactive: The `setup` tool prompts you for information during the installation process.

For more information, see [Installing the Policy Editor interactively](paz_install_pe_interactive.html).

   * Noninteractive: Automated installation allows more control over configuration. If you are using a PostgreSQL database, you must use this mode.

For more information, see [Installing the Policy Editor non-interactively](paz_install_pe_noninteractive.html).
