# Creating an attribute

Create attributes using the business terms that business users and policy writers already understand.

Consider how you'll structure the attributes and the naming conventions you'll use for them. Policy writers should be able to build and manage policies without needing deep knowledge of the often-complex underlying data endpoints or data manipulation.

## Steps

1. In the Policy Editor, click **Trust Framework**.

2. Click **Attributes**.

3. Click **[icon: plus, set=fa]**.

4. (Optional) Configure the following attribute settings as needed:

   * [Name, description, and location](paz_attr_name_desc_loc.html)

   * [Resolvers](paz_resolvers.html)

   * [Caching](paz_attr_caching.html)

   * [Value settings](paz_value_settings.html)

5. Click **Save changes**.

After creating an attribute, you can modify it to be a repeating attribute. Learn more in [Repeating policies and attributes](paz_repeat_pols_attrs.html).
