# Configuring Synchronization with SCIM

PingDataSync provides data synchronization between directory servers or proxy servers and System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) *(tooltip: \

\
An application-level, HTTP-based protocol for provisioning and managing user identity information. SCIM supplies a common schema for representing users and groups and provides a REST API.\

\
)* 1.1 applications over HTTP. Synchronization can be done with custom SCIM applications, or with the PingDirectory server and the PingDirectoryProxy server configured as SCIM servers using the SCIM extension.
