# Manage the Attribute Query profile in an IdP connection

At the attribute query step, you configure your connection to request user attributes from your partner identity provider (IdP), if you chose this option.

For more information on IdP connection options, see [Choosing IdP connection options](help_idpconnectionconfigtasklet_connectionoptionsstate.html). Attribute queries do not depend on single sign-on (SSO), but can be used independently or in conjunction with browser SSO or provisioning to provide flexibility in how a user authenticates with service provider (SP) applications. For more information, see [Attribute Query and XASP](../introduction_to_pingfederate/pf_attrib_query_xasp.html) and the [StartAttributeQueryPing](../developers_reference_guide/pf_sp_services.html#spStartAttributeQueryPing) SP application endpoint.
