# Upgrade a clustered deployment

Follow these general steps when you are updating servers in a cluster:

1. Redirect client traffic to a different IDM system or cluster.

2. Shut down every node in the cluster.

3. Update one node in the cluster.

4. Clone the first node to the other nodes in that cluster.
