# Setting the default authentication policy

Use the **Authentication** page to configure the default authentication policy in PingOne.

|   | The default authentication policy doesn't apply to the PingOne admin console. The admin console uses a system policy configured in **Settings > Administrator Security** instead of the default policy. You can't assign a different policy to the admin console. |

## Steps

1. In the PingOne admin console, go to **Authentication > Authentication** and browse or search for the policy that you want to set as the default.

2. Click the **Expand** icon to expand the policy, and then click the **Pencil** icon.

3. At the top of the page, under the policy name, click **Make Default**.
