# Adding the authentication policy to an application

Associate the authentication policy with an application so that users accessing the application will use the specified authentication policy. For more information, see [Authentication policies for applications](../applications/p1_auth_policies_for_applications.html).

## Steps

1. Go to **Applications → Applications**.

2. Locate the application you want to edit by browsing or searching for it.

3. Click the application entry to open the **Details** panel.

4. Click the **Policies** tab, and then click the **Pencil** icon.

5. Select the check box for the authentication policy that you want to apply for the application.

The policies are applied in the order in which they appear in the list. PingOne evaluates the first policy in the list first. If the requirements of the policy are not met, PingOne moves to the next policy in the list.

6. Click **Save**.

7. (Optional) To verify that your policy migrates LDAP users upon authentication, sign on to the application as a user that matches the user type you selected when you [created an authentication policy that uses the gateway](p1_create_auth_policy_using_the_gateway.html).
