# PingID desktop app requirements and limitations

## Requirements

To use the PingID desktop app, you'll need:

* A PingOne environment that includes the following services:

  * PingOne SSO

  * PingID

  * PingOne DaVinci:

    * You must use the most up-to-date [OOTB MFA Registration and MFA Authentication flows](https://marketplace.pingone.com/item/pingid-authentication-subflow).

    * For policy evaluation, you must configure the DaVinci authentication flow to use a PingOne risk policy.

      Learn more in [Configure a DaVinci authentication flow to use a risk policy](p1_desktop_app_davinci_flow_configuration.html).

* You must enable MyAccount so users can register and manage the PingID desktop app and other devices. Learn more in [Using MyAccount to manage PingID devices (Workforce only)](../user_experience/p1_using_myaccount_to_manage_wf_devices.html).

### Supported platforms

PingID desktop app is available for the following platforms and versions:

#### Mac devices

* macOS 14 Sonoma or later.

#### Windows devices

Support and requirements vary according to the Windows machine specifications.

**Windows machines with Intel(x64)**

* Supported on Windows 10 and Windows 11.

* Requires:

  * .NET Framework 4.7.2 or later.

  * Visual C++ Redistributable 2022(x64), or later.

**Windows machines with ARM processors**:

* Supported on Windows 11

* Requires:

  * .NET Framework 4.8.1, or later.

  * Visual C++ Redistributable 2022(arm64) or later.

### Device and security requirements

The following hardware requirements apply to ensure the secure storage of authentication keys:

* Device architecture must support secure key storage (secure enclave).

* Mac devices: Models with Apple Silicon (ARM-based) or an Intel processor with the T2 Security Chip architecture are supported.

* Windows devices: Devices must include TPM 2.0.

### Browser requirements

* If users access protected resources through their browser, you'll need to configure a browser policy to allow local network communication with the PingID agent. If this isn't configured, the passwordless sign-in flow might be blocked.

  Learn more in [Suppressing the Local Network Access prompt for PingID desktop authentication](p1_pid_desktop_app_v2_windows_manage_lna_prompt.html).

* (macOS only) For PingID desktop app users using Safari on macOS, you'll need to deploy specific configuration profiles using a Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution.
