# Remove directory attributes

## About this task

You need to be either a Global Administrator or Identity Repository Administrator to remove an attribute from the directory. You cannot remove an attribute that is listed as Required or used for Registration.

## Steps

1. Go to **Setup > Directory Settings > Attributes**.

2. For the attribute to remove, click the down-arrow next to the Details button and click **Remove**.

   ### Result:

   The selected attribute is removed from the directory attributes used.

3. Repeat these steps for any additional attributes to remove.
