For organizations in highly regulated industries, on-premise software stored on in-house servers might seem more secure than storing it elsewhere. With SaaS, your users access the cloud provider’s software on a subscription basis and never have to download, install, or upgrade applications. SaaS software resides on a remote cloud network and can be accessed through the internet or APIs.

SaaS is also highly scalable and cost effective because you only pay for what you use. However, SaaS applications are a one-size-fits-all model and can lack the flexibility required in a highly customized environment. This model also requires that you share your data with your provider, so it’s important that you understand the data security measures that the vendor uses, and the processes they follow to ensure your data is secure and backed up.
