(Customer Only) Configuring WhatsApp authentication

Enable and configure WhatsApp authentication to allow your users to receive a one-time passcode (OTP) by WhatsApp. You can customize the text that appears on the Copy code button and choose to include or hide the security recommendation.

To configure WhatsApp authentication, you need to do the following:

  1. Configure a custom WhatsApp sender account in PingOne. Learn more in (Customer Only) Configuring a custom WhatsApp sender account.

  2. Enable WhatsApp as an authentication method in your MFA policy. Learn more in Configuring an MFA policy for strong authentication.

  3. (Optional) Customize the WhatsApp Notification default templates.
    Only the WhatsApp Authentication template is supported in PingOne. It is added to the following PingOne Notification templates:

    • Device Pairing notification template

    • Strong Authentication notification template:

    Only the Copy code text and security notification can be customized. The WhatsApp message text and translations are defined by WhatsApp and cannot be edited in PingOne.

  4. (Optional) Configure a notification policy to limit the number of WhatsApp messages that can be sent per day, or their target locations. Learn more in Notification Polices.
